Why go from Xp to Win7 ?
For all you people savvy enough to perform upgrades, buy new OS’s, and install them. I think you can figure out the extra one or two other products. Also, the main reasons why IT professionals chose to move away from Vista was compatability issues. I have seen no driver compatability issues with my installations of Windows 7, even in Beta form. Also, from a security standpoint, Vista and Windows 7 are waaaaay more secure than XP. (Conflicker Worm, recent XP and Windows 2003 worm, does not affect Vista and 7 as much for example.) So now that we have an OS that does not have driver issues, manages memory and CPU better, I feel the IT community will be ready for something new and its about time.
As for Windows 7 itself. I recently tested XP, Vista, and Windows 7 beta on my Pentium4 3ghz 786 mb of ram 5 year old PC brought from one of our resorts. Of course XP runs well, Vista was very slow and took alot of resources, but Windows 7 runs almost as well as XP on the old bugger. Performance alone for me would be enough to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 and the additional security would be enough for me to upgrade from XP. Also, I upgraded my production computer to Windows 7. This is the most enhanced version of Windows yet. My productivity of finding windows and doing regular tasks (I do graphic design, and IT work)
has been increased. Of course we will have to see how it is taken, I believe alot of it will be the marketing effort behind it. But as far as technology goes, this is a much better step from Vista(ME)
